Automotive and extrusion
Plastic extrusion is a key process in profile manufacturing for the automotive industry.
Extrusion is used in a wide variety of applications, as examples of automotive parts that are manufactured by extrusion we can find:
1. Sealing parts or gaskets: profiles are used to seal doors and windows, to provide optimal insulation and to protect the vehicle from the outside (dust, rain...). At SCT we are specialized in TPV gaskets.
2. Aesthetic parts known as TRIM: These are finishing parts that can be manufactured by extrusion and in some specific cases they can even be co-extruded. They are used to improve functionality and appearance.
3. Interior components: Extrusion is also used to manufacture plastic parts used in automotive interiors, mouldings and covers. These components can be made from a variety of plastics such as polycarbonate and ABS, because they are heat resistant, UV resistant and durable.
4. Wiper frame: The part that is responsible for holding the wiper blade is a product that is commonly manufactured using plastic extrusion, in materials such as polypropylene or TPV.
In the automotive industry it is important to have the IATF 16949 certification to ensure the quality of automotive products.
